14 New Cardinals Named

This morning the Holy Father announced 14 new Cardinals will be created on 29 June 2018.

To Be Created Cardinal:
Count: 11; Average Age: 68.6

To Be Created Cardinal (Non-Voting):
Count: 3; Average Age: 82.6

With the addition of the 14 new Cardinals on 29 June 2018, there will be 227 members total with 125 of those having the right to vote. Assuming no Cardinal elector deaths, the number of electors will return to the theoretical maximum of 120 on 1 Aug 2019.

Archbishop Konrad Krajewski, Papal Almoner, will become the second youngest Cardinal at age 54. Dieudonné Cardinal Nzapalainga, C.S.Sp., Archbishop of Bangui, Central African Republic, will remain the youngest at 51.

Spaki named Paranava Bishop

Bishop-elect Mário Spaki was named Bishop of Paranavaí, Parana, Brazil.

The diocese had been vacant since then-Bishop Geremias Steinmetz was named Archbishop of Londrina in June 2017.

Nguyen Duc Cuong named Thanh Hoá Bishop

Bishop-elect Joseph Nguyen Duc Cuong was named Bishop of Thanh Hoá, Viet Nam.

The diocese had been vacant since then-Bishop Joseph Nguyên Chi Linh was named Archbishop of Huế in October 2016.

Ndabnyemb named Batouri Bishop

Bishop-elect Marcellin-Marie Ndabnyemb was named Bishop of Batouri, Cameroon.

The diocese had been vacant since then-Bishop Faustin Ambassa Ndjodo, C.I.C.M. was named Archbishop of Garoua in October 2016.

Konan Kouassi retired, Kouadio named Daloa Bishop

Bishop Maurice Konan Kouassi retired and Bishop Marcellin Yao Kouadio was named Bishop of Daloa, Côte d’Ivoire.

Bishop Kouadio had been serving as Bishop of Yamoussoukro.

Erected: Chiang Rai; Haelom named Bishop

The Diocese of Chiang Rai, Thailand was erected with territory taken from Chiang Mai.

Bishop-elect Joseph Vuthilert Haelom was named its first Bishop.

Grachane retired, Vera Aréjula named Nacala Bishop

Bishop Germano Grachane, C.M. retired and Bishop Alberto Vera Aréjula, O. de M. was named Bishop of Nacala, Mozambique.

Bishop Vera Aréjula had been serving as Auxiliary Bishop of Xai-Xai.

Lyrio Rocha retired, dos Santos named Mariana Archbishop

Archbishop Geraldo Lyrio Rocha retired and Archbishop Airton José dos Santos was named Archbishop of Mariana, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
