The dioceses of Caxito, Angola and Viana, Angola were erected with territory taken from the Archdiocese of Luanda.
Bishop-elect António Francisco Jaca, S.V.D. was named as the first bishop of Caxito. Bishop Joaquim Ferreira Lopes, O.F.M. Cap. was named as the first bishop of Viana. Bishop Ferreira Lopes had been serving as Bishop of Dundo.
